Pay more to get best plane seats Posted: 19 Aug 2010 02:02 AM PDT Airline passengers who want a good seat in coach can now make sure they get one -- if they're willing to pay extra. American Airlines is the latest to charge extra for certain seats, joining United Airlines, Continental Airlines, USAirways, JetBlue, Frontier, Spirit and AirTran. American said Wednesday it's now charging between $19 and $39 for "Express Seats" -- those spots in the first few rows of coach that include bulkhead seats. The seats can be bought only at airport kiosks between 24 hours to 50 minutes before the flight for travel within the United States.
