TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- For the second year in a row, US Airways (NYSE:LCC - News) will match mileage donations made by members of its frequent flyer program, Dividend Miles, to the airline's Miles of Hope program during the holiday season. From Nov. 29 through Dec. 31, US Airways will make a 1,000-mile donation, up to 25,000 miles, for every 5,000 miles donated to the four national nonprofit organizations served by Miles of Hope.

"US Airways is pleased to match the donations of our frequent flyers who have shown, year after year, the true spirit of giving during the holidays," said Julie Coleman, US Airways' director of community relations. "By contributing to the Miles of Hope program, our customers are helping our partners deliver critical services to the communities we serve."

The US Airways Miles of Hope program encourages Dividend Miles members to donate their miles to four national nonprofit organizations to fulfill each organization's mission:

  • The American Red Cross – uses donated miles to transport disaster relief workers
  • Mercy Medical Airlift – provides long-distance medical air transport for all medically indigent, low-income and financially vulnerable patients using donated miles
  • Fisher House Foundation – reunites families by providing airline tickets using donated miles to wounded military members for a leave or pass from a hospital, or for their families to visit them
  • Make-A-Wish Foundation® – uses donated miles to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions

"Since the program began in 1998, our Dividend Miles members have donated more than 700 million miles – approximately 15,000 flights – to our Miles of Hope partners," said Fernand Fernandez, US Airways' director of customer loyalty and marketing programs. "We thank all of our Dividend Miles members for their continued patronage and wish them a happy, and safe, holiday season."

Dividend Miles members can visit www.usairways.com/donatemiles to donate their miles or learn more about the Miles of Hope program. Customers who are currently not Dividend Miles members can also sign up for the program at www.usairways.com.

In addition to its Miles of Hope program, US Airways gives back year-round to the communities in which its employees work and live through corporate philanthropy (support of a broad range of nonprofit organizations, including arts and culture, health, human services, education, environment and civic), foundation giving and employees' involvement in their local communities through volunteerism and service on nonprofit boards. So far in 2010, the Do Crew, the airline's employee volunteer corps, has volunteered nearly 15,000 hours to 100 nonprofit organizations in communities throughout the United States.
